Meet Robo's master Don...

Hi! I thought I'd let people know a bit about me... just in case you're curious. I've lived my entire, sheltered, life in British Colombia, Canada. The past 17 years in Victoria, it's sunny capital. I first came to Victoria to attend the University here, and fell in love with the island. After getting my degree in Computer Science in 1984 and marrying my wife Diana, I stayed at UVic for two years teaching Computer Science labs. Two years is as long as they'd permit short term work at UVic (at the time), so I had to move on. I found employment with B.C Systems Corp in the spring of 1987, and have had the same job ever since.

It was at B.C. Systems that I was introduced to VGAP. Well, to be more accurate, coworkers at BCSC were playing and got me interested. After playing with the same 7 people for 2 years and 3 games, I was interested in finding other opponents. I found them through ALT.GAMES.VGAPLANETS and joined a couple of games.

The games didnt' run on time, and kind of died out due to lack of interest. One was eventually moved to Robo as game 43. Anyhow, it was this that determined me to write an automatic host, and Robo was concieved in the late fall of 1995, becoming active (being born) on the net on the 1st of January 1996.

He's been a challenge, and a lot of fun... and continues to be so, as there seems an endless list of improvements that need to be done. With a full-time job as well as other interests (movies, ST, and B5), I don't nearly have the amount of time I'd like to spend writing code. At least the subscribers have helped by making it possible to keep him running... there's no way I could afford it on a government salary.

I'd like to thank everyone who has supported Robo, and continues to support Robo with their ideas, suggestions, subscriptions, and... play-time.

I like to play, and I do play, in some of Robo's games. I'd like to assure people that I hate cheaters, and detest the thought of cheating. The surest way to get me to drop a game that I'm playing is to insist that I look at the host files to figure out a problem (please don't ask me to do this... I get attached to the races I play, and fight to the last ship). Also... playing at Robo helps me gain perspective on how Robo is working as well as ways to improve him.
